Sadaqah Jariyah in Islam holds a vital position that ultimately leads us to immeasurable rewards in both worlds. The acts that we perform to get rewards for today and in the hereafter are referred to as sadaqah jariyah.
What does the Holy Quran say about Sadaqah Jariyah?
As mentioned above, Sadaqah jariyah is a deed that keeps on giving facilities and ease to people. These acts involve different things such as invest in planting a tree as this tree would provide shelter as long as it stands there. It means that one will get an ongoing reward as long as it is providing shelter.
In the Holy Quran, it is mentioned:
“Surely the men who give sadaqah and the women who give sadaqah and have advanced a good loan to Allah SWT; for them, it will be multiplied and for them, there is a noble reward.”

5 deeds to perform for Sadaqah Jariyah in Islam
Undoubtedly, there are several deeds that could be performed to have rewards through Sadaqah Jariyah but here we are mentioning some of the crucial acts that you can do at your ease according to your financial status.
1. Sponsor a Child or Orphan
Children are the future of society and by making them learn, we can create a secure and prosperous generation. In several cases, it is observed that parents face financial problems and they can’t even afford to educate a child.
However, there are orphan children who are talented yet they don’t find the resources to get an education. So one can sponsor a child or orphan so that they can receive education, secure the future, and build a better society. Contributing to a child’s education yields greater rewards and it comes under the best type of sadaqah jariyah.
2. Spread Knowledge and Awareness of Islam
Spreading correct information and knowledge is greatly rewarded in Islam. As a Muslim, we are highly responsible to spread the correct knowledge of Islam and invite other people into the faith. Even if you are just spreading one correct religious aspect to another human being and then that person follows the given advice and he further spreads the knowledge with someone new then every time you will get rewards for this knowledge spread.
Likewise, teaching Holy Qur’an as to how to recite and help them understanding tafseer will bring you incessant reward even after your death as every time when the person will recite the Holy Qur’an, you will be rewarded every time.
3. Build a Water Well
Water is the basic necessity of life. We can’t live without water. However, in this technologically oriented era, there are still several countries that face water shortage and people don’t have access to water.
So in order to resolve this problem and participate in the Saqah Jariyah, build a water well, or set up some coolers at different spots and open tap connections where people can have access to clean water. This is a simple act but your rewards for this contribution will continue as long as people are benefitting from it.
4. Take Part in the Building of a Mosque, School, or Hospital
We as Muslims choose to donate for building a mosque as it is considered as building a home to worship Almighty Allah. This act greatly yields rewards whenever people perform prayers there. Likewise, we can also contribute towards the building of a school, hospital, or even an orphanage. These contributions are rewarded every single time when one gets benefit out of it and ultimately their satisfaction of hearts will let you have peace in life. This invaluable act will put an immense impact on countless lives.
5. Donate Religious Material
As per your financial status, you can donate religious materials that can spread and share Islamic knowledge to people. These materials include copies of the Holy Qur’an and books of Dua and Hadiths. Every time one reads and learns from these copies, you shall gain the reward of sadaqah jariyah as a result.
Along with these learning materials, there are other items as well that could be given to people like tasbihs, prayer mats, hijabs, medical supplies, clothing, and so on. Moreover, putting water can in the graveyard will help people to water their loved one’s graves. So every time, when one waters the grave, you will receive the benefits.
Do Sadaqah Jariyah and Invest in the Hereafter
We spend a lot of money throughout our lives to achieve dreams. But we should have to remember that this life is temporary and the need is to invest for the life of hereafter as that life would be permanent and the rewards gained for sadaqah jariyah will be greatest.
Allah (SWT) mentions in the Qur’an:
“The semblance of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah SWT is as the likeness of a grain of corn, which grows seven ears and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah SWT gives manifold increase to whomever He pleases. Allah SWT is All-Sufficient, All-Knowing.”
– The Holy Qur’an (2:261)
