Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH) is the last prophet in Islam. Several prophets came in the history of Islam to spread religion across the world. Under this post, we are giving you a brief summary of the lineage of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the son of Abdullah. The grandfather of our Prophet was Abdul-Muttalib and great grandfather of Muhammad (PBUH) was Hashim and this ancestry extended the Prophet Ismael, the son of the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon them).

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in the city of Mecca on 12th Rabi ul Awwal. The ancestors of our Prophet (PBUH) were the chiefs of the Quraysh tribe as well as the Bani-Hashim clan. He received the first divine revelation at Hira Cave and then the whole Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad gradually according to the situations of the time over a time period of 23 years.

Allah (SWT) says:

We have sent thee not except as a mercy to all the Worlds The Holy Quran, The Prophets (21): 107

We have sent thee not except as a giver of glad tidings and a warner to all the peoples The Holy Quran, Sheba (34): 28

Muhammad (PBUH) grew up with excellent manners and a polite attitude. He was known for best conducts and this is why he was referred to as al- Sadiq (The Truthful One) and al-Amin (The Trustworthy One).

Knowing this truthfulness and dignity, the well-known businesswomen, Khadija (RA) sent him a marriage proposal. Though she had many proposal by various dignitaries of the Quraysh tribe but she chose our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). At the time of this marriage, Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH) was 25 years old and Khadijah (RA) was 40 years old.

The Summary of the Lineage of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had 7 children from 2 of his wives Khadija (RA) and Maria (RA). Except for one son, all children were born to Khadija (RA). With the exclusion of Aisha (RA), Muhammad (SAW) only married widows and divorced women or captives.

Names of Prophet Muhammad PBUH’s wives

  1. Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid (may Allaah be pleased with her).
  2. Sawda bint Zamʿ(RA)
  3. Ayesha Bint Abu Bakar (RA)
  4. Hafsah bint ‘Umar (RA)
  5. Zaynab bint Khuzaymah (RA)
  6. Umm Salamah bint Abi Umayyah (RA)
  7. Juwayriyah bint al-Haarith (RA)
  8. Zaynab bint Jahsh (RA)
  9. Umm Habeebah bint Abi Sufyaan (RA)
  10. Maymoonah bint al-Haarith (RA)
  11. Safiyyah bint Huyayy ibn Akhtab (RA)

Sons of Our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

The sons of our prophet died in earlier childhood. Their names were Qasim ibn Muhammad, Abdullah ibn Muhammad, and Ibrahim ibn Muhammad. However, Ibrahim ibn Muhammad was the only child of Muhammad (PBUH) and Maria al-Qibtiyya. The son Ibrahim fell seriously ill after the Battle of Tabuk. He was either sixteen or eighteen months old when he died and Muhammad(PBUH) was sad about his demise but he accepted this as a will of Allah.

Daughter of our Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

The daughters of Muhammad (SAW) were Zainab binte Muhammad, Ruqqaiyah binte Muhammad, Umm e Khultum binte Muhammad and Fatima binte Muhammad.

Zainab binte Muhammad was married to her cousin Al’Ass Ibn Al-Rabeah. She had only one child who died as a baby.

Ruqayyah was the fourth child and the second daughter of Muhammad(SAW) and Khadija (RA). She was married to her cousin named Utbah ibn Abu Lahab. Later, she gave birth to a son Abdullah and he died at the age of 6 in Medina Munawwara.

Fatimah(RA) was the youngest daughter of Muhammad (PBUH) and Khadija (RA). She was the closest child to her father and supported him in all difficulties. She was married to Ali ibn Talib (RA) and gave birth to Hasan and Husayn (RA).

Umm Khulthum was the third daughter and 5th child of Muhammad (PBUH) and Khadija (RA). Utayba ibn Abi Lahab married her but later he gave her divorce because of Abu Lahab. But after the death of her sister Ruqayya binte Muhammad(PBUH), Uthman married Umm Kulthum. They had no child.
