How to maintain Sabr?
In this maddening world where ego, betrayal, and anger have taken the throne, it is rather hard for a Muslim to practice Sabr (patience). If you ask your grandparents, they will tell of a world that would never be a mirroring image of this one. They talk about humility, love and scarifies. A complete opposite of what we see today is self-love, wildness, and egocentric community.
Here are some tips to maintain Sabr in Ramadan and keep practicing it all through life.
1. Trust Allah
I understand it is hard when the life you expected is not what you are living. Even after much hard work and prayers, you are still standing on a blank page. This is the time when you should start trusting Allah. He has created this whole universe; your tiny droplet of the problem has a mere solution. Always remember He is the greatest of planners and what he has written for you is for your betterment. Do the best possible effort and leave the rest to Allah.
2. Promise of Allah
In the Quran, Allah promises a reward for all those who were patient and indeed Allah is the only one who keeps his promises. Work hard to attain the gift presented to only those who are patient.
“And verily We will reward those who are steadfast with a better reward than what they do.”
(An-Nahl 16: 96)
3. Do Dhikr
Whenever you face a problem where it is hard for you to control your anger, start saying Istighfar. Your sadness will turn into happiness. Perform wuzu and pray two Rakat and let your heart out in front of Allah. Tell him what hurts you. Read a verse that makes you calm down. This will help to increase your patience. You can find beautiful prayer beads to do Dhikr on Muslim Kit.
4. Control anger and be silent
Controlling one’s emotions in troublesome times is a hard task. When a boss is angry at you without any reason or when you are being scolded by your parents when it’s not your fault, plus the sneaky smile from your brother is agitating you, even more, it is when you are tested to the peak. In these times try remembering some happy moments, this always helps me. I also write down everything that hurts me in my Muslim Kit designer Journals, though they are for planning it helps.
5. Read Dua
This dua was recited by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) whenever he needed Allah’s help
“O Allah, I hope for Your mercy. Do not leave me to myself even for the blinking of an eye (i.e. a moment). Correct all of my affairs for me. There is none worthy of worship but You.”
This Dua was read by Hazrat Yaqoob (AS)
إنما أشكوا بثي وحزني إلى الله
“..I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah..” [Quran, 12:86]
