sacred month of Rajab

The Sacred month of Rajab holds a significant position among all the 12 months. Four months are declared so sacred and one of them is Rajab.

Allah says in the Quran:

“Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve in the book of Allah, since the day He created the Heavens and the Earth. Four of them, they are sacred.”

(9:36)

Along with the above verse, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has told us that among the four sacred months in the Islamic calendar, Rajab is one of the sacred months.

One of the hadiths states:

′Time has come back to its original state which it had when Allah created the Heavens and the Earth; the year is twelve months, four of which are sacred. Three of them are in succession: Dhul-Qa‘dah, Dhul-Hijjah, Al-Muharram and Rajab of Mudar [a title of Rajab], which stands between Jumada (ath-Thani) and Sha‘ban’.

Rajab and its virtues

Rajab is a sacred month in the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims are encouraged to fast and pray. It is also the month of Mairaj and the Sacred Month of Rajab is a time for reflection and devotion and offers an opportunity to connect with your spiritual side. Rajab is a great time to invest in your spiritual well-being. The rewards for doing good deeds and performing prayers are greater than other months.

The Sacred Month of Rajab is a perfect opportunity for you to deepen your religious understanding and grow closer to Allah. The mercy of Allah is at peak in this month and to please Almighty Allah, we should increase our recitation of the Quran along with adhkar and increase the act of charity.

Plant your seeds; Rajab is a month of cultivation

Abu Bakr b. al-Warraq al-Balkhi said:

“In the month of Rajab, you sow the seeds, in Sha`ban, you irrigate them, and in Ramadan, you reap the harvest.”

From the above saying, it is apparent that to enjoy the fruits of our deeds in the month of Ramadan, start planting in Rajab. By planting means to get physically, mentally and spiritually prepared for Ramadan. In order to maximize our blessings and virtue, we should plan accordingly in this month. Avoid committing sins as the rewards of good deeds are greater so as the punishment of sins.

It has been declared that our deeds weigh heavier during these four months.

Allah(SWT) said in the Holy Quran:

‘Do not wrong yourselves during them’

[9:36]
