lessons to learn from Karbala

The battle of Karbala is the most essential time that gives life lessons to learn from Karbala. The Day of Ashura is the day when Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his whole family revitalized Islam forever by their blood and hardships. At the toughest times, Imam Hussain (AS) declined to make his head down in front of the tyrants. He and his family wished a death of dignity instead of life with humiliation. Therefore on the 10th of Muharram, Imam Hussain and Hassan (AS), the grandsons of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) embraced the martyr along with their families.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“Verily Hussain is the shining light of guidance and the ark of salvation. Hasan(Imam Hussain’s elder brother) and Hussain are the leaders of the youth of Paradise.”

“As a result of the assassination of Hussain such a warmth will be kindled in the hearts of the believers that shall not become cold till the Day of Ressurection.”

The tragedy of Karbala reminds us of all the sacrifices of Imam Hussain (AS) and his family. Indeed this martyrdom has left the life-lasting lessons to learn from Karbala and to follow these teaching till the end of times.

Lessons to learn from Karbala

Speak Truth

No matter what is the life situation, the tragedy of the Karbala reflects the power of truth. The highlighted lesson of this martyrdom is to not surrender to oppression and falsehood. Verily truth is the essence of our religion along with other values emphasized in the Holy Quran.

Imam Hussain (AS) said in Karbala:
“Seek peace to maintain the truth, since nothing is more important than truth. However, a peace that cannot guarantee the truth is not peace anymore but oppression. Don’t you see that truth has been replaced by falsehood? We must be prepared to sacrifice everything that is precious in support of truth!”

Significance of Salah

The significance of Salah is greatly visible in the battle of Karbla. Throughout the battle, the martyrs did not leave any prayers. It gives a strong and clear message to the whole Muslim Ummah that prayers are obligatory regardless of what the circumstances are.

Act of Repentance

Repentance is a beautiful act that teaches us to hand over all the loads of sins and ask forgiveness to Almighty. Many people in the world do repentance but it is the repentance of Hur bin Yazid Riahi which gives us an excellent example of repentance. He was the first commander that surrounded the tents of Imam Hussain (AS). He was one of the first martyrs of Karbala and he asked Imam Hussain (AS) for forgiveness.

Becoming Selfless

Most of the people live for themselves but Karbala battle has set the greater values and lessons to implement in life. Hazrat Abbas ibn Ali(RA) is one of the leading examples carrying a selfless personality with unwavering loyalty throughout the Battle of Karbala. He fought the whole battle fearlessly and sacrificed his life. With his brave fight, he tried to acquire water for Imam Hussain’s family. In this tough time of hardship, he did not give consideration to his own thirstiness.

Strong role of Women in Islam

The role of women in the battle of Karbala is inevitable. Every woman sets a great example of bravery and a faithful attitude. The participation of Bibi Zainab in the Battle of Karbala is an example of a fearless approach. She was the symbol of all the courageous attributes for which Imam Hussain fought for. Moreover, her personality was the reflection of heavenly steadfastness with resilience. She fought against tyranny throughout the battle.

Ultimately from her character and strong attributes, it is clear that women should realize their strength and fight for the reason that greatly matters in life. It is rightly said, “the word is mightier than the sword.”
