Alhamdulillah, we are so blessed that Almighty Allah gives us the Holy month of Ramadan with His whole mercy. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and it is the month for which Muslims wait throughout the year. One of the biggest blessings of this month is the Holy Quran as it was revealed in this month and to complete the Holy Quran in Ramadan becomes our goal every year.
Almighty Allah says in Surah al-Baqarah. Particularly in verse 185 of the Surah,
“The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”
(Surah al-Baqarah, 2:185)
We all know that the month of Ramadan is the month of fasting and the month of reciting the Holy Quran more than any month as its time of the revelation of the Quran.
Reciting the Holy Quran and reflecting upon are the significant parts of this month. The Quran is a great and timeless Book that brings us to strength and makes us closer to our Creator. We draw good qualities and great reminders from this Holy book from right to wrong and life to death. There is whole goodness in every word of the Almighty Allah!
In this blog, we will look at how we can get the most benefits from the Holy Quran and how to complete the Holy Quran in Ramadan’s 30 days. Let us have a look!
Rewards of reciting the Quran
Almighty Allah has given us so many rewards at every step of life. One of the biggest virtue that awaits the Quran reader is that he/she will gain multiple rewards for every single letter of the ayah.
Hadiths highlighting importance of recitation
‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported that the Prophet s.a.w. said,
“Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter”.
(Sunan at-Tirmidhi)
Another best virtue of reading the Quran is reaching among the Best of People. As narrated in a hadith, ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan reported that the Prophet s.a.w. said,
“The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
Other virtues of reciting the Quran are getting to peace, calmness, and tranquillity.
Al-Bara’ reported a man was reciting the chapter of the cave (Surah al-Kahf) with a horse tied with two ropes by his side when a cloud overshadowed him. The cloud came nearer and nearer till his horse became frightened of it. He went to the Prophet s.a.w. in the morning and mentioned that to him. The Prophet s.a.w. said,
“Continue reciting. Verily, that was tranquillity which came down for the recitation of the Quran.”
(Sahih Muslim)
Few steps to complete the Holy Quran in Ramadan
Many of us make this month a goal to complete the Holy Quran. However, there is a need to get up with the right intention. Let us have a look at some practical steps.
1. Start with the right intentions
To fulfill the aim to complete reading the Quran in Ramadan, initiate with the right intentions.
Obviously, make the intention for Allah s.w.t. to instill faithfulness and sincerity before heading towards this journey.
Umar ibn al-Khattab r.a. reported that the Prophet s.a.w. said,
“Verily, actions are by intentions and every person will attain what they have intended for.”
Allah s.w.t. mentioned in the Quran,
“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves”
(Surah ar-Ra’d, 13:11)
All our actions are based on our intentions (Niyyah). When we do things only for Allah (SWT) then He will provide us complete strength, health, and time to complete our aims. This is why if we will start the recitation of the Holy Quran from the day first then Allah (SWT) will make us complete the Holy Quran in a timely manner with proper understanding.
2. Proper etiquette for reciting the Quran
There are different etiquettes for reciting the Holy Quran. So in order to be consistent, observe some etiquettes that will make sure to keep you motivated and complete the Holy Quran in Ramadan.
- Prioritize your cleanliness through Wudhu (ablution)
- Keep yourself in the proper and respectable state
- Start reciting with Ta’awwudz (seeking refuge in Allah SWT) and Bismillah (In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful)
A`uzu billahi min ash-shaytan nir-rajim
I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan
Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
- Don’t recite too fast as reciting at a slow pace will get you towards a better understanding of the verses and you can absorb blessings from the Quran verses
- Keep yourself away from distractions and discussions
- Praise Allah (SWT) when you end the recitation
These rules are intended to respect the Book of Almighty Allah and His precious words.
3. Plan a strategy suitable for you
There is no hard and fast rule to complete the Holy Quran in a specific time but you can devise a strategy that helps you to attain your goal of the Quran completion.
Allah s.w.t. mentioned in the Quran,
“ And We have made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.”
(Surah al-Hujurat, 49:13)
This verse states that Allah s.w.t. has created everyone differently with unique sets of strengths and weaknesses. So need is to learn our strength and how can we utilize it in the best way.
Here are some strategies that we can consider according to our convenience. You can devise strategy either individually or collectively and both as well.
4. Schedules to recite the Holy Quran
- To recite and complete 30 Juz of the Quran individually, read 1 Juz per day for the span of 30 days. As 1 Juz has 20 pages,
- Read 4 pages everyday day after every Fardh prayer
- Read 4 pages a day, 2 before each Fardh prayer and 2 more after
- Read 5 pages in the morning, 5 pages at noon, 5 pages in the afternoon, and 5 pages at night
- Read 10 pages in the morning and 10 pages in the evening
- To recite and complete 30 Juz of the Quran collectively as a group with family or friends, assign every member a number of Juz to recite throughout the 30 days.
- If there are 5 members, each member takes 6 Juz each to complete recitation within 30 days
- If there are 10 members, each member takes 3 Juz each to complete recitation within 30 days
- If there are 15 members, each member takes 2 Juz each to complete recitation within 30 days
- If there are 30 members, each member takes 1 Juz each to complete recitation within 30 days
In few words
So act upon the strategy that could work best for you. It is obvious that we all want to reap most of the benefits this month. However, the challenge is to take the first step towards the journey. So remember to push yourselves and strive till you reach the goal and complete the Holy Quran in Ramadan.
May this Ramadan Kareem be the month to glow our hearts and make us attached to the Holy Quran.
