importance of halal earning in Islam

The importance of Halal Earning in Islam is greatly highlighted in different places of the Holy Quran. People of today are more concentrated to get a good career, profession, and status as they are pressurized by their parents and society. While earning income, we as Muslims have to consider the importance of halal earning in Islam at every stage.

It is observed that the current and upcoming Muslim generation is unconscious of Islamic information on business dealings due to a lack of Islamic teachings. So in this post, we are going to highlight what Allah (SWT) has said to His creation in the aspect of earning halal income.

One of the hadiths mentioned below conveys a message for our young generation.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be to him) said:

“A time will come upon the people when they will not care as to how he gets his money whether legally or illegally.”

[Bukhari]

From the above hadith, it is apparent that people are quite apprehensive today in the matter of worldly goals and this is the reason that they don’t pay attention to their source of income.

Prospect of Earning in Islam

We consider wealth as one of the great blessings of Allah that is known as ‘Khair’ which means goodness

“Prescribed for you when death approaches [any] one of you if he leaves wealth [is that he should make] a bequest for the parents and near relatives according to what is acceptable – a duty upon the righteous.”

[Surah Al-Baqarah, Verses 215 and 180]

Islam reflects all teachings to be conducted in Muslim’s life and verily it suggests to make halal earnings so that it could be beneficial after our death as well. Quran also mentions the attraction of this world in the ayah below.

Allah says in the Holy Quran:

“Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one’s] hope.”

[18:46]

In another verse, it is mentioned in the Holy Quran:

“That nothing belongs to man except what he strives for, and that he will soon be shown his endeavor, and then he will be rewarded for it with the fullest reward.”

[53:39-41]

How Should We Earn Halal Money?

Islam emphasizes us to earn halal income by getting to legal sources of work.  This verse below reflects Allah’s message clearly:

“Eat of what is lawful and pure in the earth, and do not follow in Satan’s steps.”

[2:168]

Islam greatly highlights the importance of profitable undertakings and refraining from illegal activities like riba, bribery, gambling wagering, and fraud.

The Holy Quran says:

“They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, “In them is a great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit…”

[2:219]

In one place, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has said:

“The worst unlawful earning is the income a governor gains through bribery”.

The Benefits of Halal Earning in Islam

Allah will lighten the heart of His believer who lives on Halal earnings. Moreover, some of the benefits of halal earnings are listed below:

  • Halal money earner receiving the protection of God:  Allah says: “If what you eat is Halal and pure, I will protect you”.
