Laylatul Qadr in Ramadan is such a blessed night that is being mentioned in the Holy Quran. Ramadan is a month of spiritual cleansing and such a great chance to ask forgiveness from Almighty Allah. In the Holy month, we should try to increase our worship along with daily good deeds and acts of charity.
We are ordered to find out Laylatul Qadr in Ramadan’s last ten nights, ask mercy and forgiveness from Almighty Allah. It is one of the greatest blessings in which Allah shows great mercy to His creation. Importance of Seeking Laylatul Qadr in Ramadan
The blessed night, Laylatul Qadr is the Night of Decree or Night of Power is one of the most sacred nights in the Islamic calendar. This is the night in which the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Allah says in the Qur’an,
“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months,”
(Qur’an, 97:3)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and sincerity, shall have all their past sins forgiven,”
(Hadith, Bukhari and Muslim)
On this night, we should sincerely pray for forgiveness, recite the Holy Qur’an, send Salawat (blessings upon the Prophet) as well as offer nawafil. Almighty Allah has bestowed us with infinite blessings so we should do acts of worship to seek mercy and please Him.
Days to Find Laylatul Qadr
When we search through Islamic sources, the exact date of Laylatul Qadr is unknown. It is mentioned in hadiths that it falls on an odd night in the last ten days of Ramadan (e.g. the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27 or 29th night).
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,
“Seek it in the last ten days, on the odd nights,”
(Hadith, Bukhari and Muslim)
Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be well pleased with her) asked the Prophet (peace be upon him)
“O Messenger of Allah, if it is Laylatul Qadr, then what should I supplicate with?” he replied with the famous dua: “Allahumma, innaka Afuwwun Karimun, tuḥibbu al-afwa fa‘afu anna” – “O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning and Generous; You love to pardon, so pardon us.”
Performing i’tikaf
To gain pleasure from Almighty Allah, we as Muslims spend the last ten days of Ramadan in seclusion (i’tikaf). It is the ibadah in which we solely focus on worshipping Allah without involving in worldly affairs. Thus, it is the best time to reflect and increase worship to seek closeness to Allah.
It is the sunnah to do i’tikaf for ten days. I’tikaf is such a great opportunity to reconnect with Allah and bring peace to mind and heart. Through this ibadah,we can implement religious practices in our lives.
Giving Sadaqah during the Last Ten Nights
Sadqa itself is so significant in routine and giving sadaqah in Ramadan yields greater rewards at most. In the last ten days of Ramadan, we should give more Sadqah especially on odd nights to gain multiple rewards. It is one of the things that are purely for the sake of seeking the pleasure of Allah.
Rewards for giving sadaqah during Ramadan are multiplied by 70 times and it is even more in Laylatul Qadr. Sadqa given during Laylatul Qadr is equivalent to having performed the Sadaqa for over 83 years.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said “Sadaqa extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire,” (Hadith, Tirmidhi). He also said that Allah offers relief on the Day of Judgement for those who give sadaqa: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be their charity,”
(Hadith, Tirmidhi)
